Whitaker leads Magoffin County over Jenkins

Magoffin County senior Brady Whitaker was recognized for scoring his 1,000th career point earlier in the week. The Hornets hosted Floyd Central on Monday night. Currently, Whitaker ranks eighth in the state in scoring. He is averaging 25.3 points per game.
JENKINS - Senior Brady Whitaker poured in a game-high 31 points to lead visiting Magoffin County over Jenkins 80-64 in a boys' high school basketball game on Tuesday night.
With the win, Magoffin County improved to 11-9
Jenkins, a newcomer to the 15th Region, slipped to 1-18 with the loss.
Magoffin County shot 65.1 percent (28-of-43) from inside of the arc. The Hornets were 4-of-11 from 3-point range
Magoffin County shot 63.2 percent (12-of-19) from the free throw line.
The Hornets used a balanced offensive attack to win convincingly. Randy Bailey scored 20 points and Aden Barnett added 19 points as three Magoffin County players reached double figures in the scoring column.
Bailey led Magoffin County on the backboards, securing a game-high nine rebounds.
Magoffin County recovered from a slow start to notch the win. Host Jenkins edged the Hornets 20-19 in the first quarter. However, Magoffin County eventually took control of the matchup. The Hornets outscored Jenkins 19-13 in the second quarter to lead 38-33 at halftime.
Extending its lead after the break, Magoffin County outscored Jenkins 29-16 in the third quarter.
Chandler Lykins (six points), Mason Lovely (four points) and Isaiah Salyer (four points) accounted for the rest of the Hornets' individual scoring in the victory.
Salyer helped to lead the Hornets offensively, dishing out a game-high 11 assists.
Magoffin County is scheduled to host Sheldon Clark for a 57th District boys' basketball game on Thursday. Tip-off for the Magoffin County-Sheldon Clark boys' basketball game is set for 6 p.m.
