Whitaker averages 25 points per game for Hornets
SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County senior guard Brady Whitaker averaged 25 points per game for the Hornets through the first 10 contests in the 2018-19 boys' high school basketball season.
In 10 games, prior to the Hornets competing in the Mountain Schoolboy Classic in late-December, Whitaker averaged 25 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Through the Hornets' first 10 games, Whitaker ranked among the state's top 25 scorers.
With Whitaker leading the way, Magoffin County compiled a 5-5 record through its first 10 games. The Hornets notched wins over Jenkins, Augusta, June Buchanan, Letcher County Central and Pike County Central during the 2018-19 season's initial 10-game stretch. Magoffin County dropped games to Floyd Central, East Ridge, Lawrence County, Prestonsburg and Paintsville.
Whitaker was shooting 43.6 percent (85-of-195) from the field through 10 games. He was shooing 30.5 percent (25-of-82) from 3-point range. One of the state's top free throw shooters, Whitaker was shooting 82.8 percent (53-of-64) from the free throw line.
The productive Whitaker emerged as one of the 15th Region's top players during the 2017-18 season and continued to excel in the offseason. Whitaker led Magoffin County throughout the offseason, which included wins over opponents from multiple states.
Magoffin County will compete in the 57th District Boys' Basketball Tournament in February.
