Wallet theft leads to one arrest
SALYERSVILLE – A left-behind wallet reportedly stolen off a Taco Bell table landed one Salyersville woman in jail.
According to the arrest warrant, Magoffin County Sheriff Department Deputy Bryan Tipton investigated the theft of a wallet from Taco Bell in Salyersville, in which the victim told police he forgot his wallet on his table after eating his meal.
Tipton reviewed the video footage, reportedly showing Kayla Burchett, 29, of Salyersville, pick up the wallet and carry it out of the restaurant while taking out the trash on December 3. Tipton found the wallet in a trash bag in the dumpster, but it was missing $1,300 in cash. All the other contents of the wallet were still there.
Kentucky State Police Trooper R. Hale arrested Burchett in Inez on December 16. She was taken to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center and charged with theft by unlawful taking or disposition all others, $500 or more but under $10,000.
She was released on December 18, pending future court dates.
