Three vie for Miss Magoffin
The Miss Magoffin County Scholarship Pageant will be held on Friday, August 30, at 8:30 p.m. at the Prater’s Fort Cabin Complex in Salyersville. Miss Magoffin County 2018-19, Kaisen Eastep will say farewell to her amazing year of service. The theme for this year’s pageant is “Beach Party” and will feature Miss Magoffin, the MCHS Dance Team, under the direction of Andrea Preston, and other local entertainers performing songs and skits. Emceeing the pageant will be Magoffin County’s own Jim Caldwell, weatherman at WKYT-TV in Lexington and his morning news colleague, Andrea Walker.
Director Jincy Bailey is excited to have three beautiful ladies competing for the title of Miss Magoffin County 2019-2020. They are:
Contestant No. 1 is Brooklyn Newsome. She is the 20-year-old daughter of Brad and Lori Newsome of Floyd County. A junior at the University of Pikeville, she is majoring in Business Management. Her social impact initiative is “Dangers of Distracted Driving”. For her talent, Brooklyn will perform a tap dance routine to “Get Up Off of That Thing” by James Brown.
Contestant No. 2 is Jessica Hall. She is the 23-year-old daughter of Jeffrey and Gwendolyn Hall of Prestonsburg. She holds a Bachelor degree in Neuroscience and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish, with a French minor, from Morehead State University. Her social impact initiative is “Learning Disorder Awareness”. For her talent, Jessica will perform a lyrical dance to Lauren Diagle’s “You Say”.
Contestant No. 3 is Brooklyn Poe. She is the 18-year-old daughter of Dwight and Melinda Poe of Salyersville. A sophomore at Morehead State University, she is majoring in Elementary Education. Her social impact initiative is “Preventing Child Abuse Across America”. For her talent, she will sing her rendition of Sara Evan’s “No Place That Far.”
The winner of Miss Magoffin County will advance to the Miss Kentucky Scholarship Pageant, a franchise of the Miss America Pageant, to be held in June, 2020 in Louisville, KY.
