Thacker, Mullis emerge as key contributors

SALYERSVILLE - Sophomore guard Macy Thacker and freshman center Angel Mullis emerged as key contributors for Magoffin County during the 2019-20 girls' high school basketball season. 

Thacker ranked second in scoring for the Lady Hornets, averaging 7.9 points per game. In 28 games, Thacker netted 222 points. 

One of the most underrated girls' basketball players in the 15th Region, Thacker led Magofin County in free throw shooting. Thacker shot 66.2 percent from the free throw line for the Lady Hornets. 

Mullis ranked fourth in scoring for the Lady Hornets, averaging 5 points per game. In 28 games, Mullis netted 141 points. 

Mullis ranked second in rebounding for Magoffin County during the 2019-20 season, averaging 6.5 rebounds per game.

With junior Shay Blanton (10.6 ppg) headed back for her senior campaign, Justin Williams-coached Magoffin County is due to return three of its top four scorers from the 2019-20 season. Blanton was the lone Magoffin County player to average double figures in scoring during the 2019-20 girls' high school basketball season. 

The Lady Hornets ended the 2019-20 season 2-26 following a loss to Martin County in the 57th District Girls' Basketball Tournament Semifinals.

Magoffin County is expected to be much-improved in the 2020-21 girls' high school basketball season.
