Teen dies less than a week after wreck

PIKEVILLE – The teen injured in a single-vehicle crash on KY Rt. 30 passed away on Sunday morning.

Brandon Gaige Rowe, age 18, of Salyersville passed away on January 19, six days after wrecking on January 13.

According to officials, the Crown Victoria, driven by Brandon Rowe, appeared to have left the roadway, hit the embankment, and overturned, rolling an unknown number of times. Rowe was ejected from his vehicle and found lying on the roadway by a motorist, who was reportedly his friend that was following behind him.

Rowe was unconscious and unresponsive when emergency crews arrived at the scene and would have been airlifted, however, heavy fog prevented medical helicopters from being able to accept the flight.

He was transported by ambulance to an area hospital, then transferred to a trauma center, where he remained until his death.

Rowe graduated from Magoffin County High School in May 2019. His full obituary is on page A4 of this issue of the Independent.
