Second-leading rusher Howard due back for 2020 season
After finishing second in rushing for Magoffin County as a junior, running back Caleb Howard is due back for the 2020 high school football season.

SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County's second-leading rusher from the 2019 high school football season, Caleb Howard is headed into his senior campaign.
Howard excelled for Magoffin County on the gridiron throughout the 2019 high school football season, rushing 63 times for 405 yards and four touchdowns in 10 games. Showing some versatility, Howard hauled in eight receptions for 65 yards and one touchdown.
Defensively, Howard posted 41 tackles, sixth-most for the Hornets.
Magoffin County concluded the 2019 season 3-7. The Hornets, under the direction of first-year head coach Chris Gamble, notched wins over Knott County Central, Betsy Layne and Morgan County. Magoffin County dropped games to Martin County, Breathitt County, Belfry, Lawrence County, Floyd Central, Pike County Central and Clay County.
The Hornets averaged 23.7 points per game in the 2019 season.
Magoffin County excelled on the ground in 2019, averaging 241.7 yards and 2.6 touchdowns per game. In 10 games, Magoffin County rushed 277 times for 2,417 yards and 26 touchdowns.
Senior running back Jaylon McDuffus emerged as Magoffin County's leading rusher. McDuffus rushed 77 times for 1,156 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Three Magoffin County running backs combined to rush for nearly 1,900 yards in 2019.
Currently sidelined due to the coronavirus, Howard and his Magoffin County teammates hope to return to the gridiron soon.
