Rejuvenated Lady Hornets defeat Phelps, 52-48

PHELPS - Magoffin County made the most of a trip to Pike County earlier in the week, defeating host Phelps 52-48 on Monday night.

With the win, its second victory in three games, Magoffin County improved to 4-6.

Phelps dropped to 4-4 with the loss. 

Magoffin County shot 46.9 percent (23-of-49) from the field. However, visiting Magoffin County was only 2-of-14 from 3-point range. Magoffin County finished 4-of-7 from the free throw line. 
 

Kennedi Stacy, a longer leader for Magoffin County, scored 24 points and secured 15 rebounds. The productive Stacy led all players in both scoring and rebounding. 

Stacy was the only Magoffin County player to reach double figures in the scoring column. Kenlee Wireman scored nine points while Macy Tacker tossed in eight points for the Lady Hornets. 

Haley Barnett and Destiny Conley rounded out the Magoffin County individual scoring, tallying four points apiece in the victory. 

Phelps shot 34.7 percent (17-of-39) from the field. finishing 9-for-32 from beyond the arc. A team out of the 60th District, Phelps shot 50 percent (5-of-10) from the free throw line. 

Chloe Smith led Phelps with a double-double, scoring 24 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. 

Danielle Prater accompanied Smith in double figures, scoring 18 points for Phelps in the setback. 

Magoffin County is slated to face 16th Region member Lewis County in the opening round of the Lady Jaguar Invitational at Floyd Central High School on Thursday (Dec. 20). Tip-off for the Magoffin County-Lewis County matchup is set for 3 p.m.
