New lens for Jim

5

Proms, graduations, sports teams, ball games and special events in Magoffin are more often than not recorded by local photographer, Jim Arnett. We use his pictures in the paper, which he very generously makes available for public use, sharing on Facebook, and when the occasion calls for it, even sends the originals. When his lens he uses for sports bit the dust a month or so ago, the community came together and took up a collection. On Friday, he was honored before the Lady Hornets home game, given a new lens and even some money to help with his costs of traveling back and forth from his work in Versailles and the games.

Arnett called the gesture, “one of the most shocking and emotional things that has ever happened to us,” referring to him and his wife, Janet.

In a Facebook post he made on Sunday, Arnett said, “I received a card back from Canon a couple days ago letting me know my old lens could not be repaired, they called it end of life, so this could not have come at a better time. My old lens may have reached its end of life, but this community has breathed new life into what we do. We are humbled and blessed to be honored in this way.”

He thanked the community for the love and support shown. For more on the story, be sure to pick up next week’s paper as we talk with Arnett!
