Mollett headed into senior season

SALYERSVILLE - Senior Nick Mollett is among the key players due back on the field for Magoffin County in the 2020 high school football season. 

A wide receiver/cornerback, Mollett ranked eighth in tackles for the Hornets in 2019. Mollett recorded 38 tackles as a junior in 2019, making 18 solo stops. As a junior, Mollett enjoyed a breakout season. 

Magoffin County's schedule is set for the 2020 high school football season. However, the Hornets' schedule could be altered due to COVID-19. 

The Hornets have home games scheduled against Martin County, Betsy Layne, Belfry and Lawrence County.

Magoffin County is due to face Knott County Central, Breathitt County, Floyd Central, Pike County Central and Morgan County in away games. 

Under the direction of head coach Chris Gamble, Magoffin County is slated to visit Knott County Central for the 2020 season opener on August 21. 

Despite missing out on advancing to the postseason and matching its record from the 2018 high school football season, Magoffin County showed improvement in its latest gridiron campaign.

Magoffin County concluded the 2019 season 3-7. The Hornets notched wins over Knott County Central, Betsy Layne and Morgan County. Magoffin County dropped games to Martin County, Breathitt County, Belfry, Lawrence County, Floyd Central, Pike County Central and Clay County. 

Opponents outscored the Hornets 350-237 in the 2019 season. 

Magoffin County excelled on the ground in the 2019 season, averaging 241.7 yards and 2.6 touchdowns per game. In 10 games, Magoffin County rushed 277 times for 2,417 yards and 26 touchdowns.

In addition to defense and special teams, Mollett could contribute offensively during the upcoming campaign.
