McDuffus rushes for over 1,000 yards
SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County senior running back Jaylon McDuffus reached a milestone on Friday, Oct. 25, surpassing 1,000 rushing yards in the 2019 high school football season.
In nine games, McDuffus has rushed 73 times for 1,011 yards and eight touchdowns. McDuffus is among the top running backs in Class 3A.
As a team, Magoffin County has rushed 259 times for 2,052 yards and 20 touchdowns in nine games. McDuffus has helped to lead the Hornets offensively throughout the 2019 high school football season.
Caleb Howard is the Hornets' second-leading rusher. Howard has rushed 62 times for 358 yards and three touchdowns.
Fernando Irvin ranks third in rushing for the Hornets. Irvin has rushed 47 times for 263 yards and four touchdowns.
Through the air for Magoffin County, Lucas Litteral has completed 29 of 71 passes for 197 yards and two touchdowns while throwing one interception. Nick Caldwell, who was under center regularly for Magoffin County earlier in the season, has completed 18 of 27 passes for 301 yards and two touchdowns while throwing three interceptions.
Mason Lovely leads the Hornets in receiving. Lovely has hauled in 20 receptions for 187 yards.
Brad Standifer follows Lovely in the Magoffin County receiving column. Standifer has hauled in nine receptions for 125 yards and two touchdowns.Chipping in as part of a limited aerial attack for the Hornets, Howard and Caleb Wilson have hauled in one touchdown pass reception apiece.
Defensively for Magoffin County, in only eight games, Lovely has recorded a state-leading 182 tackles.
The Hornets are headed into a season finale versus Morgan County.
