McDuffus, Lovely leading Hornets

Senior Jaylon McDuffus continues to lead Magoffin County in rushing. McDuffus is on pace to rush for over 1,000 yards in the 2019 high school football season.
SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County has shown much improvement on the gridiron thus far in the 2019 high school football season.
With the improvement, leaders have emerged for the Hornets.
Running back Jaylon McDuffus leads Magoffin County offensively and is on pace to rush for over 1,000 yards for the Hornets. In five games, McDuffus has rushed 36 times for 560 yards and four touchdowns.
As a team, Magoffin County has rushed 123 times for 1,151 yards. The Hornets have rushed for 11 touchdowns.
Caleb Howard ranks second in rushing for the Hornets. Howard has rushed 31 times for 242 yards and three touchdowns.
Fernando Irvin and Zach Conley have rushed for one touchdown apiece for the Hornets. Irvin has gained 171 yards via 23 rush attempts.
Through the air for Magoffin County, quarterback Nick Caldwell has completed 18 of 37 passes for 301 yards and two touchdowns. Caldwell has thrown three interceptions.
Along with his production through the air, Caldwell has rushed for two touchdowns.
Mason Lovely leads Magoffin County in receiving, Lovely has hauled in 15 receptions for 147 yards.
Contributing through the air, Howard and Brad Standifer have reeled in one touchdown pass reception apiece for the Hornets.
Lovely, one of Kentucky's most underrated high school football players, leads the state in tackles. Through five games, Lovely has recorded 107 tackles. He has registered five sacks and one interception.
Magoffin County is 2-3 overall and 0-1 in Class 3A, District 8. The Hornets entered the week with regular-season games remaining versus Lawrence County, Floyd Central, Pike County Central, Clay County and Morgan County.
