Man reportedly attempts to steal ATV
BURNING FORK – A Salyersville man was arrested on Tuesday after allegedly attempting to steal an ATV on Burning Fork.
According to the arrest citation, Magoffin County Sheriff Department Officer Bryan Tipton responded to a call on September 3, alleging that a man tried to steal an ATV from a house on Old Burning Fork Road.
A neighbor told law enforcement that he saw a man walking up the driveway and heard the ATV start up, then watched him ride halfway down the driveway before it quit. The subject allegedly started the ATV, again, and rode it to the end of the driveway, where it quit for a second time. He reportedly got off the ATV, opened all the boxes on it and took off walking up Dotson Branch.
After asking around, Tipton found out a man fitting the witness’s description of the subject was walking on Jim Arnett Branch.
Tipton found Stephen Puckett, 29, of Salyersville, at a home on Jim Arnett Branch and wearing clothes described by the witness.
Puckett told police he had been at the home all evening.
He reportedly had two needles in a case in his pocket.
Puckett was arrested and taken to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, where he remains at press time, and charged with theft by unlawful taking (auto), $500 or more but under $10,000 (attempt); second-degree criminal mischief; and buying or possessing drug paraphernalia.
