Man arrested after stolen ATV posted online
RIVER ROAD – A Magoffin man is behind bars after a stolen ATV came up for sale on Facebook.
According to the warrant, the owner of a stolen side-by-side reported the theft to Magoffin County Sheriff Department Deputy Bryan Tipton on November 9, noting that he had noticed it missing the day before, but thought a friend had borrowed it.
During Tipton’s investigation, the stolen side-by-side came up for sale on Facebook. Deputy Jonathan Holbrook went to look at the ATV that was for sale and confirmed it was the stolen one.
The person who posted the ATV for sale gave the sheriff department a statement, claiming he purchased the side-by-side from Creed Edward Arnett, 45, of River Road, on the day it went missing from the owner’s home.
A warrant was issued for Arnett’s arrest on November 18 and he was picked up on December 11 on KY 867. He was taken to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, where he remains at press time, facing one count of receiving stolen property, $10,000 or more.
According to jail records, he is also charged with serving parole violation warrant and contempt of court libel/slander, resistance to order.
A preliminary hearing in the felony case is scheduled for March 2, 2020 at 9:15 a.m. at the Magoffin County Justice Center.
