Magoffin County tops Pike County Central, 15-9


BUCKLEYS CREEK - Magoffin County notched another win over the weekend, topping host Pike County Central 15-9 in a high school softball game on Saturday.

With the win, Magoffin County moved to 6-0.

Pike County Central dropped to 6-6 with the loss. 

Magoffin County pitcher Bethany Joseph earned the win. Joseph allowed four runs on four hits in three innings, recording one strikeout while giving up three walks.  

Holly Handshoe and Jaden Williams pitched two innings apiece for the Lady Hornets. Williams recorded a team-high three strikeouts. 

Offensively, Presley Smith and Erin Bolen led Magoffin County with four hits apiece. Smith, one of the top young softball players in the state, Smith drilled two doubles and legged out a triple. Bolen, who has signed with the University of Pikeville softball program, delivered five RBIs for the Lady Hornets. The hard-hitting Bolen homered during Magoffin County's win. 

Kennedi Stacy and Emilee Bailey added three hits apiece for Magoffin County in the victory.

Following Stacy and Bailey in the Magoffin County offensive category, Jamie Collins, Laney Bledsoe, Jaylynn Lafferty and Katie Howard contributed two hits apiece. 

Williams posted one hit as part of Magoffin County's winning effort. 

Magoffin County was hosting Betsy Layne at press time on Wednesday. The Lady Hornets are slated to visit Paintsville for a 57th District softball game on Thursday.
