Magoffin County ranked sixth in 15th Region Top 10


SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County is ranked sixth in the 15th Region Softball Coaches Association Preseason Top 10. 

The Lady Hornets are listed ahead of Belfry, East Ridge, Paintsville and Floyd Central in the preseason poll.

Magoffin County is listed behind Shelby Valley, Pike County Central, Lawrence County, Pikeville and reigning champion Johnson Central.

Martin County was the only additional team to receive votes for the preseason poll.

The Lady Hornets ended the 2019 season 11-9 following a loss to rival Johnson Central in the 57th District Softball Tournament Semifinals. Johnson Central captured 57th District and 15th Region titles in 2019. 

Under the direction of head coach Tony Skaggs, Magoffin County is scheduled to open the 2020 high school softball season at home versus longtime rival Menifee County on March 17. Menifee County hails from the neighboring 16th Region. 

Magoffin County's 2020 schedule includes games versus Menifee County, Breathitt County, Floyd Central, Shelby Valley, Morgan County, Betsy Layne, Robertson County, Paintsville, Prestonsburg, Elliott County, Belfry, Pike County Central, Johnson Central, Pikeville, Martin County, Lawrence County, Campbell County and Mason County.

The Lady Hornets opened preseason practice in February.
