Magoffin County to open 2019 softball season at Floyd Central


SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County is slated to open the 2019 high school softball season on the road at 58th District member Floyd Central on March 19.

The Lady Hornets, under the direction of head coach Tony Skaggs, concluded the 2018 softball season 12-13. Magoffin County lost to eventual champion Johnson Central in the 2018 57th District Softball Tournament. 

The Lady Hornets rolled past Floyd Central when the two high school softball teams met during the 2018 season, winning 15-1 in five innings. Floyd Central ended its inaugural season 12-21 after finishing runner-up to Lawrence County in the 58th District and making an appearance in the 15th Region Softball Tournament. 

Magoffin County returns several key players for the 2019 season.

The Lady Hornets are scheduled to host Floyd Central on April 23. In addition to Floyd Central, Magoffin County's 2019 season will include games versus Hazard, Elliott County, Sheldon Clark, Phelps, Pike County Central, Belfry, Betsy Layne, East Ridge, Paintsville, Morgan County, Johnson Central and Shelby Valley. 

Magoffin County will compete in the 2019 57th District Softball Tournament in May. 

Before seeing its first pitch in the 2019 season, Magoffin County will begin preseason practice in mid-February.
