Magoffin County loses to Floyd Central

SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County fell in the semifinals of the 15th Region 2A Girls' Basketball Tournament as undefeated Floyd Central pulled away to win 64-38 on Thursday night (Jan. 3).

The Lady Hornets were forced to play from behind throughout the tournament game. 

Floyd Central shot 41.2 percent (28-of-68) from the field. The Lady Jaguars were 4-of-13 (30.8 percent) from 3-point range. 

Floyd Central was 4-of-6 from the free throw line. 

The Lady Jaguars used a balanced effort to notch the win. Four Floyd Central players reached double figures in the scoring column. Abby Maggard led Floyd Central with 12 points. Finishing directly behind Maggard in the Floyd Central scoring column and recording a double-double, Kaylee Moore added 11 points and 10 rebounds. Two other Floyd Central players, Grace Martin and Katie Moore, tossed in 10 points apiece. Katie Moore also pulled down 10 rebounds to register a double-double of her own. 

Another key contributor, Lauren Preston, netted eight points and grabbed eight rebounds as part of Floyd Central's winning effort. Preston, a senior, played for Johnson Central earlier in her high school career.

Kennedi Stacy led Magoffin County with a game-high 18 points. Stacy was the only Magoffin County player to reach double figures in the scoring column. 

Kenlee Wireman (seven points), Haley Barnett (seven points), Destiny Conley (two points), Angel Mullis (two points), Macy Thacker (one point) and Morgan Damron (one point) accounted for the rest of the Lady Hornets' scoring in the setback.
