Magoffin County edges Jenkins, 59-58

SALYERSVILLE - Returning to the win column, Magoffin County edged visiting Jenkins 59-58 in a girls' high school basketball game on Friday (Jan. 17).  

The Lady Hornets returned to the win column following back-to-back losses to Pike County Central and Pikeville. 

Magoffin County shot 50 percent (23-of-46) from the field. The Lady Hornets were 3-for-9 (33.3 percent) from 3-point range. 

Magoffin County shot 55.6 percent (10-of-18) from the field.  

Macy Thacker led Magoffin County with 17 points. Thacker was 6-of-9 from inside the arc. 

Following Thacker in scoring and recording a double-double for Magoffin County, Angel Mullis scored 15 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. 

Haley Barnett accompanied Thacker and Mullis in double figures in scoring for the Lady Hornets, adding 12 points. Barnett was 4-for-4 from the free throw line.  

Shay Blanton narrowly missed reaching double figures for the Lady Hornets, finishing with nine points. 

Rounding out Magoffin County's individual scoring, Stephanie Helton and Katie Howard contributed three points apiece.  

Magoffin County and Jenkins met for the first time in the 2019-20 girls' high school basketball season.
