Magoffin County drops game at East Ridge


LICK CREEK - Fresh off a win over former 14th Region frontrunner Breathitt County, Magoffin County slipped back into the loss column over the weekend. Host East Ridge, a 15th Region rival from Pike County, defeated the Lady Hornets 65-56 on Saturday. 

With the loss, Magoffin County slipped to 1-3.

East Ridge evened its record to 1-1 with the win.

Homestanding East Ridge won despite shooting only 38.6 percent (22-of-57) from the field. The Lady Warriors were 7-of-26 (26.9 percent) from 3-point range. 

East Ridge shot 50 percent (14-of-28) from the free throw line.

Inside, East Ridge outrebounded Magoffin County 33-30. 

Kelsi Slone led East Ridge with 17 points. Haylee Meade was the only other East Ridge player to reach double figures in the scoring column, finishing with 10 points.

Narrowly missing double figures in scoring for East Ridge, Kyra Looney and Haley Parks posted nine points apiece. Nearly notching a double-double, Parks pulled down nine rebounds. 

Former 15th Region champion Magoffin County shot 40 percent (18-of-45) from the field. The Lady Hornets were 2-of-8 (25 percent) from 3-point range. 

Magoffin County shot 47.4 percent (18-of-38) from the free throw line. 

Kennedy Stacy led Magoffin County with a near-double-double, scoring a game-high 26 points an claiming nine rebounds.

Magoffin County featured four scorers in double figures. Macy Thacker posted 14 points, Morgan Damron netted 11 points and Haley Barnett tossed in 10 points for the Lady Hornets. 

Kenlee Wireman and Destiny Conley rounded out the Magoffin County individual scoring, putting in two points apiece.
