Magoffin County drops district match to Paintsville


SALYERSVILLE- Magoffin County remained in the loss column on Tuesday as visiting Paintsville pulled away to win 3-0 in an early-season 57th District volleyball match.

The match served as a season opener for Paintsville, the two-time defending 15th Region champion. 

Paintsville set the tone early in the 57th District match, winning the opening game 25-7.

Remaining ahead of host Magoffin County, Paintsville won the second game 25-12.

Perennial 15th Region title contender Paintsville finished strong in the 57th District match, winning the third game 25-4 to claim the victory.

With the loss, Magoffin County dropped to 0-2. 

Magoffin County is scheduled to visit Johnson Central for another 57th District match on Thursday. Johnson Central will host Magoffin County for its home opener in the 2019 high school volleyball season. The start time for the Magoffin County-Johnson Central volleyball match is 6 p.m.


Lady Hornets fall to Buckhorn in opener 

BUCKHORN - Magoffin County dropped its opener in the 2019 high school volleyball season as host Buckhorn won 3-0 on Monday.

Buckhorn, an opponent from the nearby 14th Region, pulled away to win the opening game of the high school volleyball match 25-7.

Magoffin County fared better in the second game but still fell short as Buckhorn prevailed 25-18.

Finishing strong, Buckhorn beat the Lady Hornets 25-15 in the third game.  

Despite suffering the loss in the high school volleyball season opener, Magoffin County showed improvement throughout the match. 

Magoffin County is under the direction of head coach Kelsey Salyer and competes in the 57th District (15th Region). Prior to opening the season, Magoffin County started preseason practice in July. The Lady Hornets concluded the 2018 season 2-20. 

Magoffin County is scheduled to host Buckhorn for a late-season match on October 1.
