Magoffin County drops district game to Sheldon Clark


WARFIELD - Magoffin County dropped its 57th District girls' basketball opener on the road as host Sheldon Clark pulled away to win 61-44 on Friday night.

Sheldon Clark was 25-of-62 (40.3 percent) from the field in the win. The Lady Cardinals shot 38.9 percent (7-of-18) 3-point range. 

Sheldon Clark shot 57.1 percent (4-of-7) from the free throw line. 

Madison Thompson and Kristen Isaac led Sheldon Clark with double-doubles. Thompson scored a game-high 17 points and claimed 13 rebounds. Following Thompson and pacing Sheldon Clark in the rebounding column, Isaac scored 11 points and grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds. 

Paige Maynard and Graci Snyder were also instrumental offensively for the Lady Cardinals, contributing eight points and seven points, respectively. 

Kennedi Stacy led Magoffin County with a team-high 15 points and five rebounds. Stacy was the only Magoffin County player to reach double figures in the scoring column.
Magoffin County shot 40.5 percent (17-of-42) from the field in the loss. The Lady Hornets were 8-of-20 (40 percent) from 3-point range. 

Kenlee Wireman netted eight points, Haley Barnett added seven points and Stephanie Helton tossed in six points for the Lady Hornets. 

Rounding out the Magoffin County individual scoring, Destiny Conley chipped in four points while Macy Thacker posted two points. 

Both Magoffin County and Sheldon Clark will compete in the 57th District Girls' Basketball Tournament in February.
