Magoffin County blanks Prestonsburg 12-0


PRESTONSBURG - Dominating over the weekend, Magoffin County blanked host Prestonsburg 12-0 in five innings in an early-season high school softball game at StoneCrest Sports Park on Saturday.

With the win, Magoffin County moved to 2-0.

Prestonsburg dropped to 0-3 with the loss. 

The Lady Hornets outhit Prestonsburg 15-4 and turned in an error-free performance in the field. 

Magoffin County set the tone early, scoring four runs in the top half of the first inning. Former 15th Region champion Magoffin County led 12-0 at the conclusion of the third inning and continued to hold Prestonsburg scoreless in the Lady Blackcats' final two plate appearances. 

Magoffin County hurler Jade Williams claimed the pitching win. Williams worked three innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out three and walking one.

Another pitcher, Bethany Joseph, threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen for the Lady Hornets

Prestonsburg pitcher Katelyn Bingham took the loss. Bingham surrendered 12 runs on 15 hits over five innings, striking out three.

Erin Bolen, Presley Smith, Kennedi Stacy and Jaylynn Lafferty each managed multiple hits for Magoffin County in the convincing victory. Bolen went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Magoffin County in the hits column. The productive Bolen provided a game-high four RBIs. Finishing directly behind Bolen, Smith added three hits for the Lady Hornets. 

Alison Campbell paced Prestonsburg at the plate, finishing 2-for-2. 

Magoffin County was hosting 57th District rival Sheldon Clark at press time on Wednesday. The Magoffin County-Sheldon Clark softball game ended too late to make this edition.
