Lady Hornets to venture to Montgomery County for opener

SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County is scheduled to visit Montgomery County for a girls' high school basketball season opener on Monday, Nov. 23.

The Lady Hornets' 2020-21 season schedule is taking shape. 

Magoffin County and Montgomery County did not meet during the 2019-20 prep hoops season. The Lady Hornets are slated to host Montgomery County in another matchup on January 11, 2021. 

Under the direction of head coach Justin Williams, Magoffin County is due to open preseason practice in mid-October. 

Magoffin County concluded the 2019-20 girls' high school basketball season 2-26 after falling to host Martin County in the 57th District Semifinals. 

Following a loss to Clark County in the 40th District Semifinals, Montgomery County ended the 2019-20 season 16-13.

Along with Montgomery County, Magoffin County's 2020-21 schedule includes Prestonsburg, Floyd Central, Lawrence County, Johnson Central, Raceland, Shelby Valley, Morgan County, Leslie County, Martin County, Paintsville, Betsy Layne, Robertson County, Rowan County and East Ridge. 

Multiple experienced players are poised to return for the Lady Hornets.
