Lady Hornets turn back Morgan County, 12-4
SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County returned to the win column at home on Monday, defeating border rival Morgan County 12-4 in a high school softball game.
Bethany Joseph earned the pitching win for the Lady Hornets. Joseph pitched three innings, allowing three runs on five hits and walking zero.
Chelsea Stacy took the pitching loss for the Lady Cougars. Stacy pitched four and a third innings, allowing nine runs on nine hits and striking out four.
Another Morgan County pitcher, Allie Smith, threw one and two-thirds innings in relief.
Magoffin County set the tone early, scoring five runs in the bottom half of the first inning. The Lady Hornets led 6-2 at the conclusion of the second inning and remained in control throughout the matchup. Magoffin County led 12-3 at the end of the third inning.
The Lady Hornets outhit 16th Region member Morgan County 10-8. Jamie Collins led Magoffin County with three hits and one RBI in four at-bats. Kennedi Stacy, Emilee Bailey, Presley Smith, Erin Bolen, Holly Handshoe, Jaylynn Lafferty and Karlee Stewart added one hit apiece for the Lady Hornets. Bolen provided two RBIs while Smith and Handshoe drove in one run apiece.
Magoffin County overcame three errors to win handily,
Carson Oney and Autumn Cole each collected multiple hits for Lady Cougars. Oney went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Morgan County in the hits column.
Morgan County committed two errors in the loss.
