Lady Hornets outlast Knott County Central


HINDMAN - Magoffin County persevered on the road on Tuesday, April 2, outlasting host Knott County Central 8-6 in eight innings in a high school softball game.

Familiar high school softball rivals, Magoffin County and Knott County Central hail from bordering regions. 

With the win, Magoffin County moved to 5-0.

Knott County Central slipped to 3-3 with the loss. 

Jaden Williams earned the pitching win in the circle for the Lady Hornets. Williams allowed five runs on 11 hits in eight innings, registering seven strikeouts while giving up three walks.

Magoffin County plated eight runs on 14 hits in the victory. Emilee Bailey and Holly Handshoe provided three hits and one RBI apiece for the Lady Hornets. 

Following Bailey and Handshoe for the Lady Hornets, Kaylynn Lafferty, Kennedi Stacy and Erin Bolen added two hits apiece. 

Presley Smith and Katie Howard contributed one hit apiece for the Lady Hornets. Bolen and Smith provided two RBIs apiece as Magoffin County pulled away for the win in the extra inning.

A former 14th Region frontrunner, Knott County Central was limited at the plate during the game's final at-bat. 

The Magofifn County and Knott County Central softball teams aren't scheduled to meet again during the current campaign.
