Lady Hornets lose to Paintsville


SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County fell short in a bid to beat a longtime 57th District rival over the weekend. Visiting Paintsville held on to defeat Magoffin County 54-47 in a 57th District girls' basketball game on Saturday. 

Paintsville won despite shooting only 31.4 percent (22-of-70) from the field. The Lady Tigers were 5-of-31 from 3-point range. 

Paintsville shot 50 percent (5-of-10) from the free throw line. 

Elizabeth Williams led three Paintsville scorers in double figures, netting 17 points. Anna Keeton scored 13 points while Clara Blair added 11 points in Paintsville's victory. 

Aleiah Newsome was another key contributor for the Lady Tigers, posting eight points. 

Keeton led Paintsville inside, claiming seven rebounds. 

Magoffin County shot 36.4 percent (16-of-44) from the field. The Lady Hornets were 4-of-12 from 3-point range. 

Magoffin County shot 78.6 percent (11-of-14) from the free throw line. 

The Lady Hornets excelled inside, outrebounding Paintsville 49-35.

Kennedi Stacy led Magoffin County with a game-high 22 points and 29 rebounds. Stacy was the only Magoffin County player to reach double figures in the scoring column.

Haley Barnett narrowly missed reaching double figures for the Lady Hornets, scoring nine points. 

Macy Thacker (six points), Shay Blanton (four points), Kenlee Wireman (four points) and Morgan Damron (two points) were Magoffin County's other scorers.
