Lady Hornets limited in loss to Johnson Central


SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County was limited offensively as visiting Johnson Central pulled away to win 68-36 in a 57th District girls' basketball game on Monday night.

With the loss, Magoffin County dropped to 5-19 overall and 0-6 in the 57th District. 

Johnson Central improved to 12-12 overall and 4-1 in the district with the loss. 

Senior guard Ashlee Belcher poured in a career-high 41 points to lead Johnson Central to the district victory. 

Magoffin County shot only 30.2 percent (13-of-43) from the field. The Lady Hornets were 5-of-15 from 3-point range.

Magoffin County shot 41.2 percent (5-of-12) from the free throw line. 

Haley Barnett led Magoffin County with 11 points, finishing directly behind Barnett in the Magoffin County scoring column and recording a double-double, Kennedi Stacy added 10 points and eight rebounds. 

Macy Thacker (seven points), Kenlee Wireman (five points), Destiny Conley (two points) and Morgan Darmon (one point) accounted for the rest of the Lady Hornets' scoring. 

Magoffin County and Johnson Central will compete in the 57th District Girls' Basketball Tournament later in the month. 

The Lady Hornets have regular-season games remaining versus Pikeville (Feb 7), Betsy Layne (Feb. 8), East Ridge (Feb. 9), Lawrence County (Feb. 12), Floyd Central (Feb. 14) and Pike County Central (Feb. 15).
