Lady Hornets to host Prestonsburg in home opener

SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County has finalized a home opener versus Prestonsburg for the 2020-21 girls' high school basketball season.
The Lady Hornets are slated to host 15th Region counterpart Prestonsburg for a home opener on Tuesday, Nov. 24.
Prestonsburg, a team out of the neighboring 58th District, swept a pair of pair of regular-season games from Magoffin County during the most recent hoops campaign.
Magoffin County is scheduled to visit Montgomery County for a girls' high school basketball season opener on Monday, Nov. 23. Montgomery County competes in the 40th District/10th Region.
The Lady Hornets' 2020-21 season will feature numerous familiar opponents.
Magoffin County concluded the 2019-20 girls' high school basketball season 2-26 after falling to host Martin County in the 57th District Semifinals.
Under the direction of head coach Justin Williams, Magoffin County will open preseason practice in mid-October.
Prestonsburg, under the guidance of head coach Brandon Kidd, compiled an 11-16 record in the 2019-20 season. The Lady Blackcats suffered a season-ending loss to newfound rival Lawrence County in the 2019-20 58th District Girls' Basketball Tournament Semifinals. Prestonsburg won 20 games during the 2018-29 girls' high school basketball season.
