Lady Hornets fall to Floyd Central
SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County remained in the loss column two days after its season opener. Visiting Floyd Central pulled away to win 60-39 over Magoffin County in a non-district girls' high school basketball game on Thursday, Nov. 29.
With the loss, Magoffin County, which fell to Pikeville in a season opener on Tuesday, Nov. 27, dropped to 0-2.
Floyd Central shot 43.6 percent (24-of-55) from the field. The Lady Jaguars were 4-of-15 from 3-point range.
Floyd Central shot 72.7 percent (8-of-11) from the free throw line.
Controlling the backboards, Floyd Central outrebounded Magoffin County 40-32.
Lauren Preston, a senior forward, paced Floyd Central with 13 points and seven rebounds.
Following Preston in scoring and recording a double-double, Katie Moore added 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Jaguars.
Floyd Central featured three scorers in double figures as Kaylee Moore contributed 10 points.
Kennedi Harvell (eight points), Abby Maggard (seven points), Brooke Stumbo (six points) and Grace Martin (two points) provided additional scoring for Floyd Central in the victory.
Contributing inside, Martin pulled down seven rebounds for the Lady Jaguars.
Magoffin County shot 36.7 percent (11-of-30) from the field. The Lady Hornets were only 2-of-18 from 3-point range.
Magoffin County shot 61.1 percent (11-of-18) from the free throw line.
Kennedy Stacy led Magoffin County, scoring a game-high 21 points. Stacy was the only Magoffin County player to reach double figures in the scoring column.
Narrowly missing double figures, Macy Thacker netted nine points for the Lady Hornets.
Morgan Damron netted six points while Kenlee Wireman scored on a field goal for the Lady Hornets.
Destiny Conley rounded out the Magoffin County individual scoring, connecting on a fee throw
Damron led Magoffin County inside, securing a team-high eight rebounds.
Magoffin County is slated to meet Floyd Central in the Lady Jaguar Invitational on December 22.
