Lady Hornets come up short against East Ridge


SALYERSVILLE - Host Magoffin County came up short as 15th Region rival East Ridge held on to win 5-4 in a high school softball game on Monday.

East Ridge dealt Magoffin County its third straight loss. 

With the loss, Magoffin County dropped to 10-5.

After notching the win, East Ridge improved to 12-14.

East Ridge pitcher Caitlyn Coleman claimed the win in the circle. Coleman surrendered four runs on five hits over seven innings, striking out nine.

Laney Bledsoe took the pitching loss for the Lady Hornets. Bledsoe pitched five innings, allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out six.

East Ridge outhit Magoffin County 9-5. Bethany Tackett, Kyra Looney and Haley Parks paced East Ridge with two hits apiece. 

Kennedi Stacy, who was named the 15th Region Girls' Basketball Player of the Year less than one month ago, led Magoffin County with two hits in three at-bats. Presley Smith, Erin Bolen and Jaime Collins followed with one hit apiece for homestanding Magoffin County. Stacy and Smith drove in one run apiece for the Lady Hornets. 

Each high school softball team committed one error. 

Magoffin County was set to host 58th District member Floyd Central at press time on Wednesday. The Lady Hornets have additional regular-season games remaining versus Elliott County, Belfry and Phelps.
