Jewel Marie Lunsford
Jewel Marie Lunsford, age 95, a native of Salyersville, died in her sleep at her residence in Waco, Kentucky, on Sunday, December 29, 2019 from complications of pneumonia. She and her husband Bruce Lunsford were missionaries to the Amazon (Brazil and Peru) for many years. After retirement, they returned to Salyersville, Jewel’s birthplace, and loved in the home where they first met in Dixie Addition.
She was born on August 28, 1924, in Salyersville, Kentucky to the late James and Hortense May. She is survived by three children: Robert B., Jr. (wife Lovely), Ava Lynne, James B. (wife Belinda), daughter-in-law Shirley Lunsford (married to William, deceased), and raised like a daughter Darly Wicher from Brazil, now living in Switzerland. Jewel is also survived by eleven grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bruce Lunsford, son William, father James May, mother Hortense May, three brothers, two sisters and one grandson.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday January 01, 2020 from the Magoffin County Funeral Home Chapel with James Lunsford officiating. Burial followed in the Tackett Cemetery in Salyersville, Kentucky. Arrangements were under the direction of the Magoffin County Funeral Home.
