Hornets to visit Lawrence County on Thursday


SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County is set to visit longtime rival Lawrence County for a Class 3A, District 8 football game on Thursday, Oct. 3. 

Under the direction of head coach Chris Gamble, Magoffin County will be looking to notch its second win in three games. 

The Hornets are 2-3 overall and 0-1 in Class 3A, District 8.

The Bulldogs are 2-3 overall and 0-0 in the district.

Junior quarterback Baden Gillispie leads Lawrence County. Gillispie paces the Bulldogs in both passing and rushing.

Along with Gillispie, Lawrence County features sophomore running back Blue Fletcher. 

Lawrence County has notched wins over Prestonsburg and Boyd County. The Bulldogs have dropped games to Paintsville, Russell and Pikeville. Lawrence County has suffered back-to-back losses to Russell and Pikeville. 

Through five games, opponents have outscored Lawrence County 157-118. 

Lawrence County's remaining regular-season schedule features additional games versus Pike County Central Belfry, Floyd Central and Raceland. 

Magoffin County and Lawrence County did not meet during the 2018 high school football season. 

Kickoff for the Magoffin County-Lawrence County football game is set for 7:30 p.m.
