Hornets set to visit Martin County


SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County is set to visit Martin County for its second game in the 2019 high school football season. 

Both Magoffin County and Martin County will enter the upcoming matchup 1-0. Each team won convincingly in Week 1. 

The Hornets defeated Knott County 51-22 in a season opener on Friday, Aug. 23.

In another season opener on Friday, Aug. 23, the Cardinals beat Betsy Layne.

Magoffin County will be looking to carry some momentum over into its second game in the 2019 high school football season.

Martin County dominated throughout its season opener. Underrated running back Kolby Sparks rushed 10 times for 215 yards and two touchdowns as the Cardinals rolled to the win.

Dominant Martin County led Betsy Layne 41-12 at halftime. 

Ranking as Martin County's second-leading rusher Logan Proctor rushed seven times for 75 yards and two touchdowns. Contributing on the ground, Branson Smith added 58 yards and one touchdown on four carries in the Cardinals' victory. 

The Cardinals were able to produce on the ground and through the air in the season opener. Martin County quarterback Drake Muncy rushed for a touchdown and completed a scoring pass for the Cardinals. 

Magoffin County pulled away to defeat Knott County Central 51-22 in its season opener. The Hornets rushed for nearly 290 yards in the season-opening win. Balanced Magoffin County scored via offense, defense and special teams during its 2019 debut.

Jaylon McDuffus rushed eight times for 118 yards in the Hornets' season opener. While McDuffus didn't reach the endzone in the opener, three other Magoffin County backs scored one touchdown apiece. 

Defensively, Mason Lovely recorded 19 tackles and returned an interception 80 yards for a touchdown in Magoffin County's 2019 debut. Kickoff for the Magoffin County-Martin County football game is set for 7:30 p.m.
