Hornets' Preseason Opener Set For Saturday


SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County boys' basketball fans won't have to travel far to catch the Hornets' preseason opener. The Hornets are due to face an opponent from the 16th Region in a preseason opener in nearby Johnson County.

The Hornets are set to meet 16th Region member Raceland in the 2019 Hutch 15th Region Preseason Challenge at Johnson Central High School on Saturday, Nov. 23. 
Magoffin County, under the direction of head coach Scott Castle, exited the 2018-19 season 15-15. The Hornets fared well throughout the 2018-19 boys' high school basketball season. 
Raceland compiled a 16-14 record in the 2018-19 season. The Rams finished runner-up in the 63rd District and made an appearance in the 16th Region Boys' Basketball Tournament. 

Magoffin County and Raceland did not meet during the 2018-19 season and are not scheduled to cross paths during the upcoming campaign.

Along with Magoffin County and host Johnson Central, the 15th Region teams set to compete in the upcoming preseason boys' high school basketball event are Prestonsburg, Lawrence County, Belfry, Shelby Valley and Paintsville.

Tip-off for the Magoffin County-Raceland game is scheduled for 4 p.m.
