Hornets notch back-to-back wins

27

SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County has claimed back-to-back wins over 16th Region members.

In a high-scoring high school baseball game in Sandy Hook on Wednesday, March 27, Magoffin County shut out host Elliott County 14-0 in five innings. The victory over homestanding Elliott County allowed Magoffin County to halt a three-game losing skid.

Magoffin County, under the direction of head coach Steve Miller, remained in the win column earlier in the week, defeating visiting border rival Morgan County 11-1 in five innings.

With the win over Morgan County, Magoffin County improved to 3-5.

In March, Magoffin County managed to edge visiting Shelby Valley 7-6 in eight innings in a home opener.

The Hornets have dropped early-season high school baseball games to Estill County, Floyd Central, Russell, East Carter and Knott County Central.

Individual statistics from the Hornets' latest two games were unavailable at press time.

The Hornets are due to host 16th Region member East Carter on Monday, April 8. East Carter shut out Magoffin County 13-0 in five innings in the Big Jack Classic in Grayson on Saturday, March 23. At press time, East Carter was playing at the Cal Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
