Hornets notch back-to-back wins
SALYERSVILLE - The Magoffin County Hornets notched back-to-back wins over a three-day span Thursday, Dec. 6-Saturday, Dec. 8. During the three-day period, Magoffin County posted wins over both Jenkins and Augusta.

Magoffin County 95, Jenkins 57: Magoffin County dominated in its home opener, puling away to defeat visiting Jenkins 95-57.
The Hornets shot 46.6 percent (34-of-73) from the field. Magoffin County was 7-of-24 (29.2 percent) from 3-point range.
The Hornets shot 80 percent (20-of-25) from the free throw line.
Brady Whitaker led Magoffin County with a double-double, pouring in 36 points and pulling down 10 rebounds, both of which were game-highs.
Magoffin County featured three scorers in double figures as Aden Barnett added 23 points and Randy Bailey posted 14 points.
Mason Lovely (six points), Chandler Lykins (six points), Grayson Whitaker (four points), Ryan Henderson (four points) and Isaiah Salyer (two points) accounted for the rest of Magoffin County's scoring.
Payton Rose paced Jenkins with 15 points. Accompanying Rose in double figures for the Cavaliers, Ethan Cummings and Chad Fleming added 11 points apiece and John Fleming contributed 10 points.
Magoffin County 63, Augusta 61: Magoffin County would not be denied a win on the road over the weekend. Winning on a neutral court, Magoffin County managed to outlast 10th Region member Augusta 63-61 in the Robertson County Adidas Classic in Mount Olivet on Saturday.
With the win, Magoffin County improved to 2-3.
Augusta slipped to 1-5 with the loss.
Magoffin County shot 52.4 percent (22-of-42) from the field. The Hornets were (29.4 percent) from 3-point range.
Magoffin County shot 58.3 percent (14-of-24) from the free throw line.
Brady Whitaker scored a game-high 31 points to lead Magoffin County to the victory.
Aden Barnett was the only other Magoffin County player to reach double figures in the scoring column, finishing with 12 points.
Chandler Lykins (seven points), Randy Bailey (six points), Mason Lovely (five points) and Isaiah Salyer (two points) provided the additional scoring for the Hornets.
Augusta lost despite shooting 55 percent (22-of-40) from the field. The Panthers shot 41.2 percent (7-of-17) from 3-point range.
Augusta shot 71.4 percent (10-of-14) from the free throw line.
Blake Reed led a balanced Augusta scoring effort, tallying a team-best 19 points. Samuel Appelman and Stephen Cordle contributed 12 points apiece while Preston Philpot pushed in 11 points for the Panthers in the loss.
