Hornets lose to Estill County in five innings

SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County was limited at the plate as visiting Estill County, a rival from the neighboring 14th Region, pulled away to win 15-1 in five innings in a high school baseball game on Wednesday, May 1. 

Estill County set the tone early, plating four runs in the top half of the opening inning.

Solid offensively and defensively, Estill County outhit the Hornets 12-1 and finished error-free in the field. 

Micah Adams earned the pitching win for the Engineers. Adams surrendered one run on one hit over five innings, striking out seven.

Jacob Watson suffered the pitching loss for the Hornets. Watson tossed three innings, allowing five hits and five runs while striking out two.

Morgan Seales, Ty Niece, Justin Rison and Rocky Hix each provided multiple hits for the Engineers. Seales led Estill County at the plate, providing three hits in four at-bats. 

Pacing Estill County defensively, Gabe Brooks had the most chances in the field with seven.

Mason Lovely connected for Magoffin County's lone hit in the loss. 

Magoffin County committed four errors in the setback. 

The Hornets were hosting former 14th Region frontrunner Knott County Central at press time on Wednesday. Magoffin County has additional regular-season games remaining versus Pike County Central and Bath County.
