Hornets to host Morgan County for finale

SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County will look to end the 2019 high school football season in the win column as rival Morgan County visits on Friday, Nov. 1.

Morgan County has struggled throughout the 2019 high school football season. The Cougars are winless.

Magoffin County is 2-7 overall and finished 0-4 in Class 3A, District 8. The Hornets have notched wins over Knott County Central and Betsy Layne. Magoffin County has dropped games to Martin County, Breathitt County, Belfry, Lawrence County, Floyd Central, Pike County Central and Clay County.

Through nine games, opponents have outscored the Hornets 328-189. 

Morgan County is 0-9 overall. The Cougars have dropped games to Rowan County, Betsy Layne, East Carter, Fairview, Nicholas County, Knott County Central, Breathitt County, Middlesboro and Leslie County.

Through nine games, opponents have outscored Morgan County 391-58. 

The Cougars compete in Class 2A, District 7, along with Knott County Central, Breathitt County, Middlesboro and Leslie County. 

The Hornets will be looking to avenge a loss from 2018. Morgan County defeated the Hornets 34-24 when the two longtime rivals met in West Liberty during the 2018 high school football season. 

Chris Gamble is winding down his first season as the Hornets' head coach. 

Morgan County is under the direction of head coach Mark Easterling. 

Kickoff for the Magoffin County-Morgan County football game is set for 7:30 p.m.
