Hornets Headed Into Final Preseason Game
SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County will face 14th Region member Powell County in its final preseason scrimmage at Paintsville High School at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30.
The Hornets opened preseason practice in mid-October and are poised to take the floor in the Paintsville Tourism Tip-Off Classic. Magoffin County continues to prepare for the upcoming campaign.
The Hornets finished the 2018-19 boys' high school basketball season at the .500 mark (15-15). Magoffin County lost leading scorer Brady Whitaker to graduation but returns several experienced players including Aden Barnett (12.1 ppg).
Powell County is the reigning 56th District Champion. The Pirates ended the 2018-19 season 13-15 and are returning a senior-heavy lineup.
Guard Colby Cook (9.6 ppg, 3.3 rpg) and center Chimaobi Ajuonuma (9.6 ppg, 6.7 rpg) are the top players back for the Pirates.
After capturing the 56th District title, Powell County reached the semifinals of the 2018-19 14th Region Boys' Basketball Tournament.
In another boys' high school basketball matchup set for Saturday, Paintsville is due to face Huntington Prep Regional.
