Hornets fall to Clay County in non-district game


MANCHESTER - Magoffin County was unable to return to the win column in its latest outing. Visiting Magoffin County suffered its fifth straight loss as Clay County won 22-8 in a non-district high school football game on a mud-covered field Friday, Oct. 25.

Running back Chandler Hibbard led Clay County to the win, rushing 35 times for 216 yards.

Collectively, Clay County rushed 39 times for 232 yards and one touchdown.

While Magoffin County held Hibbard out of the endzone other Clay County running backs crossed the goal line.

Deon McCulley rushed four times for 16 yards and a touchdown for the Tigers.

Quarterback Ethan Hacker paced Clay County (6-3) through the air, completing four of 11 passes for 110 yards and two touchdowns.

Dominique Hubbard and Raven Abner provided one receiving touchdown apiece for the Tigers.

Magoffin County (2-7) was held to under 150 yards of total offense. The Hornets rushed 28 times for 78 yards and one touchdown. 

Mason Lovely led the Hornets on the ground. Lovely rushed seven times for 39 yards and one touchdown. 

Leading rusher Jaylon McDuffus was limited for the Hornets, rushing eight times for 19 yards. 

Through the air for Magoffin County, quarterback Lucas Litteral completed seven of 15 passes for 62 yards and one interception.

Lovely paced Magoffin County in receiving, securing four receptions for 37 yards. 

One of the state's top linebackers, Lovely led Magoffin County's defensive effort with a game-high 24 tackles.
