Hornets drop district game to Sheldon Clark


SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County was held scoreless as visiting Sheldon Clark pulled away to win 6-0 in a 57th District baseball game on Wednesday, April 24. 

With the loss, Magoffin County dropped to 4-12 overall and 0-6 in the 57th District. 

Sheldon Clark improved to 11-9 overall and 2-4 in the district with the win. 

Daylon Stafford earned the win on the mound for the Cardinals. Stafford pitched six innings, allowing three hits and zero runs while striking out 10 and walking zero. 

Another Sheldon Clark pitcher, Will Lafferty, threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Lafferty recorded the last three outs to earn the save.

Nick Caldwell was on the mound for the Hornets. Caldwell allowed eight hits and six runs over seven innings, striking out two and walking one as he suffered the pitching loss. 

Sheldon Clark doubled up Magoffin County 8-4 in the hits column. 

Parker Jarrell led Sheldon Clark at the plate, delivering three hits in four at-bats. Jarrell and Drake Muncy provided two RBIs apiece for the Cardinals.

Sheldon Clark committed only one error in the shutout victory.

Mason Lovely, one of the top baseball players in the 15th Region, went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Magoffin County in the hits column. Following Lovely's leading offensive performance for the Hornets, Lucas Litteral and Ian Prewitt added one hit apiece. 

Magoffin County committed two errors in the setback.
