Homicide investigation continues
HALF MOUNTAIN – On Saturday morning Mortimer Media Group was able to confirm that the Magoffin County Coroner's Office and Kentucky State Police are investigating a homicide after someone discovered the body of a 78-year-old male in a driveway of a Porter residence on Roanne Creek Road off of Half Mountain Road in Magoffin County Friday, June 19.
The victim, Jerold Arnett, 78 years old from Salyersville, was pronounced deceased by Magoffin County Deputy Coroner Brian Parker.
The case has been ruled a homicide and the body is being sent to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy. At this time, it is believed he died of an apparent gunshot wound.
According to a press release issued on Monday by the Kentucky State Police, no arrests have been made at this time and detectives are still processing evidence and taking statements from people who may have been connected or have information on the case.
The investigation is being led by KSP Detective Newsome.
On Wednesday KSP Trooper William Petry confirmed that no charges have been made at this time, but they are building a case and expect to be able to pursue charges soon.
