Girls' Game Preview: Magoffin County at Floyd Central


SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County will visit Floyd Central for a girls' high school basketball season opener on Monday, Dec. 2. 

The Lady Hornets, under the guidance of head coach Justin Williams, advanced to the 2018-19 15th Region Girls' Basketball Tournament. Magoffin County finished runner-up behind champion Johnson Central in the 57th District last season.

Sophomore guard Macy Thacker and junior forward Haley Barnett are among the top players back for the Lady Hornets. 

Floyd Central has captured back-to-back 58th District titles in its first two seasons. Junior guard Katie Moore is among the top players in the 15th Region and will lead the Lady Jaguars after averaging a team-best 13.2 points and 8.7 rebounds per game during her sophomore campaign. 

Floyd Central lost three of its top four scorers to graduation or transfer but in addition to Moore returns senior guard Brook Stumbo, sophomore center Grace Martin, freshman guard Kennedi Harvell and sophomore guard Kamryn Shannon. 

The Lady Jaguars compiled the best record among 15th Region girls' basketball teams during the 2018-19 season, finishing 28-3.

Floyd Central defeated Magoffin County three times during the 2018-19 girls' high school basketball season. 

Tip-off for the Magoffin County-Floyd Central girls' basketball season opener is set for 6 p.m.
