Groundbreaking for new library

In a project that started with the purchase of the property in 2009 and has had many hiccups and snags along the way, the construction of the new Magoffin County Public Library (MCPL) is officially underway.

Construction on the new structure is expected to take one year and it is anticipated to be completed and open to the public by late summer 2018.

Pictured are MCPL Director Melanie Cain, Board Member Heather Ward, State Representative John Blanton, Salyersville Mayor James "Pete" Shepherd, Board Member Barbara Patrick, Magoffin County Judge Executive Dr. Charles Hardin and Board Chairman David May prepare to break ground on the project.

Also pictured are MCPL staff Betty Willaims (library assistant), Melanie Cain (director) and Judy Hammond (also library assistant).
