Bobby Jack “BJ” Kelsey


Bobby Jack “BJ” Kelsey passed away on April 24, 2018 in Lexington, KY. 
Bobby Jack was born in Oil Springs, KY on February 11th, 1939. He is the son of the late Jesse Arthur of Monticello, KY and Anna Audrey Caudill Kelsey of Oil Springs. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers Paul Francis and Charles Douglas and one sister Boneva Jo. 
His father, who was a World War I veteran and employed as an explosives expert and oil & gas well-shooter, died on Christmas Day in 1944 leaving his strong-willed mother to raise six children with no income. Bobby Jack was the baby of the family. He grew up raising tobacco for spending money before he worked for a magazine in Springfield, OH. He drove a truck for many years before he nearly lost his leg in an automobile accident.
He met his wife at Chick’s Drive In and they married soon thereafter. He and his wife operated Kelsey’s Market and ran B & C Kelsey Drilling for many years before transitioning to two other small businesses.
Surviving are his wife Claudine Preston Kelsey of Oil Springs, daughter Gina Michelle Lane, husband Danny of Grayson, KY, and two sons, Bobby Dean Kelsey, wife Kimberly Frazier Kelsey of Oil Springs, KY and Jesse Bert, wife Kimberly Beckett Kelsey of Georgetown, KY; and two sisters, Marian Schulz, of Palm Coast, FL and Jane Salyers, of Oil Springs, KY.
He is also survived by seven grandchildren; Derek Clay McDavid, Trevor Dean McDavid, Danielle LaRae Hale, Jerralyn MeDeana Kelsey, Katherine Audrey Kelsey, Preston Thomas Kelsey & Jessica Beall Kelsey, as well as six great-grandchildren; Graysen, Blakeleigh, Landon, Kayeleigh, Hadleigh, Harlan and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, all of whom he thought of dearly.
He is also survived by his beloved Sophia, a border collie who always slept by his side. Bobby Jack gave his life to Christ with Pastor McCoy Taylor from Oil Springs Methodist Church on April 7, 2018. He was baptized by Associate Pastor Andrew Singh from Georgetown First United Methodist Church on April 18, 2018. Funeral services were held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, April 29, 2018 in the Jones-Preston Funeral Chapel with burial following at Highland Memorial Park in Staffordsville, KY.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Jones-Preston Funeral Home.
