Connelley Racing wins in Michigan
MARTIN, MI - Martin Connelley and his crew left Salyersville this past Wednesday night bound for US131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan. Armed with Eddie and Maggie McCarty’s infamous orange Mustang, the team was prepared to race in one of drag racing’s most competitive heads-up classes, Ultra Street. Ultra Street has been a very popular class amongst drag racers and spectators alike since its inception around ten years ago. Ultra Street races are held all over the country, however the cars are very evenly matched because they are required to abide by the same set of rules no matter where the events take place.
Connelley and his crew faced off against 22 other racers from Florida, to New York, and everywhere in between. Connelley qualified 3rd out of 23 entries in the class, and kept picking up speed from there. The Connelley team rattled off several impressive passes during the elimination rounds, including an incredible 4.63 @ 153 MPH in the 1/8th mile on their way to winning the event!
For perspective, a brand new 2020 Mustang GT runs the ¼ mile in approximately 12.2 seconds. The McCarty owned Mustang piloted by Connelley has been 7.4 in the ¼ mile.
Martin Connelley and his team are heading to North Carolina this weekend with their silver car to race the “No Brainer Nationals” at Shadyside Dragway.
