Community Day less than two weeks away
SALYERSVILLE - The 16th-annual Magoffin County Community Day is slated for August 17, 2019, just over a week away!
Magoffin County Community Day, which will be held at Ramey Memorial Park starting at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 17, is planned as a fun event to help raise money for participating non-profit civic organizations in the county. The goal is to raise money to benefit Magoffin County’s people through the various organizations.
The Magoffin County Community Foundation continues to be the primary sponsor of the event, along with Salyersville National Bank, and local civic groups raised over $1.1 million during the first 15 Community Days.
Once again, the Magoffin County Community Foundation has partnered with the Magoffin County School System. Young adults from the junior and senior classes will be given an opportunity to volunteer their time to help each of the participating non-profits, while earning points toward possible scholarships.
This year’s participating non-profit organizations include: DAV, Magoffin County Senior Citizens, Christians Care Fund, Woman’s Club, Kiwanis, South Magoffin Community Activist Group, South Magoffin Volunteer Fire Department, Rescue Squad, Salyersville Fire Department, District 3 Volunteer Fire Department, Middle Fork Volunteer Fire Department, North Magoffin Volunteer Fire Department, Bloomington Volunteer Fire Department, Rainbow Girls, Miss Magoffin County Scholarship Organization, Magoffin County Youth Baseball/Softball and the KMBTC. Every age bracket is represented in these seventeen groups. Imagine, one event, Magoffin County Community Day, touching so many people in Magoffin County.
Just as the community has come to expect, similar activities will be included this year, such as food booths, games for all ages, the ever-popular money machine, a dunking booth and raffles. They will also have the Cow Bell Quiz, again, with $1,600 up for grabs, plus two lower-level UK men's basketball tickets will be raffled off.
Also planned is a huge lineup of music including Russell Moore and Third Tyme Out, Ralph Stanley II and The Clinch Mountain Boys, Blue Highway, Hammertowne, Terry Miller and Traveler, Route 1081, and Waylon Bayes. For their first appearance at Community Day, the Nathan and Chesi Arnett Band will also take the stage. Kids with the popular Project Echo event will open up the event.
The community can also expect an appearance of “Willie Nelson and Friends,” with a medley of their favorite songs.
For this year’s Community Day, the Community Foundation will be continuing the theme - “Honoring our Heritage - Building Our Future,” and what better way to do this than by “honoring those who protect our home communities.” Supporting our local law enforcement is critical to building a better community in which to live and work.
Tickets for the August 17 event remain at $10 and are now available for sale at both branches of The Salyersville National Bank and at both gates the day of the event.
Children under 12 will be admitted free. Mark your calendars and bring your lawn chair!
