Charges to be filed after Elk Creek wreck
ELK CREEK – Charges are pending following a Wednesday afternoon one-vehicle accident on Elk Creek.
According to Magoffin County Rescue Squad Captain Carter Conley, on Wednesday, February 6 the vehicle was traveling toward US 460 on Elk Creek when the driver, later identified as Steven Caudill, age 49, of Salyersville, lost control, ran off the road and hit a tree.
Rescue crews had to wade into the creek in order to stabilize the vehicle and safely extract Caudill from the wreck.
Caudill reportedly suffered possible head trauma, however, no helicopters were available due to weather. He was transported by ambulance to Pikeville Medical Center, though his condition is unknown at press time.
Magoffin County Sheriff Department Deputy Jonathan Holbrook told Mortimer Media Group Caudill was driving on a DUI suspended license at the time of the accident and he found marijuana in the vehicle, noting that charges will be filed in the case.
