BOYS' HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Hornets notch win over June Buchanan

PIPPA PASSES - Winning on the road, Magoffin County pulled away to defeat 14th Region member June Buchanan 69-58 in a late-season boys' high school basketball game on Wednesday, Feb. 13.
The Hornets overcame a slow start to notch the win. June Buchanan took a lead out of each of the first three quarters. The Crusaders led 31-24 at halftime. 
But Magoffin County finished strong. After facing a deficit at the conclusion of each of the first three quarters, Magoffin County outscored June Buchanan 26-11 in the final period. 
Reigning 15th Region Boys' Basketball Player of the Year Brady Whitaker and Aden Barnett led Magoffin County with 18 points apiece. Accompanying Whitaker and Barnett in double figures in scoring for the Hornets, Randy Bailey added 17 points. 
Bailey, one of the most improved boys' basketball players in the 15th Region, recorded a double-double for the Hornets, grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds. 
Magoffin County excelled offensively, shooting 54 percent (27-of-50) from the field. The Hornets finished 2-of-5 from 3-point range. 
Magoffin County shot 61.9 percent (13-of-21) from the free throw line. 
Mason Lovely scored eight points, Isaiah Salyer added six points and Chandler Lykins chipped in two points as determined Magoffin County prevailed. 
Magoffin County recorded 13 assists opposed to committing only eight turnovers.
